About

Hi! I’m Devorah. I’m a clothing designer, writer, maker and mother, lover of beautiful fabric and enthusiastic supporter of local handmade industry.

Devorah profile photoI come by this stuff honestly. Growing up in the 1970s with a textile artist mother and a weekend art school in my basement, I spent my childhood playing with cloth, wool, and needles, making quilts for my teddy bear, working at craft shows with my Mom, and selling my handmade goods during my lunch break at school.

I run a small business called Red Thread, designing and producing clothing in Toronto. For ten years I focused on designing for children, and my first collection for women came out in March 2015, on my tenth anniversary (now I love doing both!). I also own an online fabric shop called Studio Fabric Shop, in which I only sell fabric that I love, and I work as a writer as well.

The adoption of my daughter Samantha in 2003 inspired me to name my business “Red Thread” after an old Chinese proverb beloved by adoptive families: “An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle but will never break.” This blog is my way of reaching out to connect with you.
